The launch of ‘Al Quoz Creative Zone’

On 7 April 2021, His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of The Executive Council of Dubai, launched Al Quoz Creative Zone to serve as a hub for creative talents, offering facilities, services and incentives for them to live and work. Al Quoz Creative Zone will cover a range of fields including publishing, writing, print and audio-visual media such as cinema, music and video, as well as artistic and cultural industries, cultural heritage museums, historical sites, archives, major cultural events, libraries, and the software and video gaming industry. It also includes design in all its variations, whether related to fashion, gaming, software, or architecture. The new creative zone aligns with the Dubai Creative Economy Strategy and will serve as a one-stop shop for all creative-related services, licenses and permits. It will feature multipurpose spaces and host art workshops as well as offer a smart online rental platform that would enable companies and entities to display rental spaces for creative professionals across Dubai at affordable rates. Additionally, as part of the new strategy, residing artists with projects and activities in Al Quoz Creative Zone and emerging creative entrepreneurs will receive the exclusive ‘Al Quoz Creative Membership,’ which will grant them access to a wide range of benefits, including fee reductions, reduced rents and logistic business support, among many others. The new zone will also feature the ‘Al Quoz Vanguards’ programme that aims to attract world-leading brands to open branches and shops in Al Quoz, as part of the efforts to enhance Dubai’s profile as a leading destination for global creatives New committee appointed to oversee development of Al Quoz Creative Zone On 15 April 2021, Her Highness Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairperson of the Dubai Culture & Arts Authority (Dubai Culture), approved the formation of a committee to oversee the development of the Al Quoz Creative Zone..

As its chairperson, Shikha Latifa aims to strengthen the emirate’s position as a regional and international hub for the creative economy within the framework of an integrated system for advancing Dubai’s comprehensive economic progress. As part of the immediate implementation of His Highness’s directives, HH Sheikha Latifa also announced the appointment of the members of the committee. His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), will be the Vice Chairman of the Committee. Other members include His Excellency Dawoud Al Hajri, Director General of Dubai Municipality; His Excellency Sami Al Qamzi, Director General of Dubai Economy; His Excellency Helal Saeed Almarri, Director General of the Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (Dubai Tourism); Her Excellency Hala Badri, Director General of Dubai Culture; and His Excellency Hesham Abdullah Al Qassim, CEO of wasl Asset Management Group (wasl Properties). First ‘Al Quoz Creative Zone Accelerators’ Workshop On 21 April 2021, Dubai Culture hosted the first of a series of the Al Quoz Accelerators workshops, in cooperation with its partners at Alserkal Avenue in Al Quoz, which brought together government stakeholder committee representatives, in addition to the emirate’s creative community to develop Al Quoz Creative Zone. It succeeded in laying out the components of the 100-day plan, constituting a comprehensive development plan to determine the priorities of the committee members’ work to develop the zone and strengthen its position as an integrated, dynamic and creative centre as well as a regional and global incubator for creative individuals and companies, setting timelines and drawing a roadmap for the next five years to ensure the region’s sustainable growth and prosperity.
